This week we will explore the pivotal American Revolutionary War battle, Kings Mountain. Join me on my podcast this week to learn about that significant moment during the southern campaign that changed the course of the war.

In the fall of 1780, for the first-time colonists fought colonists. British general Charles Lord Cornwallis sent colonial tory Major Patrick Ferguson to North Carolina to recruit loyalist militia and to protect Cornwallis’s left flank as the General moved his forces through the Carolinas.

It did not take long for Ferguson to come up against patriot residents of the backcountry. On October 7, 1780, at Kings Mountain Ferguson and the Overmountain men clashed in a small but significant battle. It was the first major setback for Britain.
