Ferd and Mary

Ferdinand Welke and Mary M. Dargatz (abt. 1923) standing in front a line of cars. This photo was probably taken around the Portland, Oregon area. Ferdinand Welke was born in July of 1896 in what is now along the Bug River on the Polish/Belarusian border. At the time it was considered Russia. His family were Germans living in Russia. After World War I and during the Russian Civil War, what was left of the family escaped to America. This was probably taken about 1922 or 1923. Mary Dargatz was born in Millet, Alberta, Canada on 21 July 1904. She came to America with her sister Elizabeth in the early 1920s. Ferdinand and Mary were married on 23 March 1924 in Portland, Oregon.
